How to Book PTE Core in Canada: Dates, Fees, and ID Rules
You book PTE Core through Pearson at pearsonpte.com. Create a myPTE account using your full legal name exactly as it appears on the ID you will bring, search by city to see live seats at test centres near you, choose a date and time, and pay by card. There is no fixed annual exam calendar. Slots are released continuously and vary by centre, so availability is the thing to check first, not the date.
Booking PTE Core step by step
- Create your myPTE account. Enter your name, date of birth and contact details exactly as they appear on the ID you will present at the centre. A mismatch here is the single most common reason candidates are turned away on test day.
- Choose PTE Core, not PTE Academic. They are separate tests booked through the same account. PTE Core is the one IRCC accepts for economic immigration.
- Search by city. Pearson shows live seats at centres near you. Availability differs between centres in the same city, so check more than one before settling.
- Pick a date and time slot. Leave yourself enough preparation runway, and enough buffer after the test for results to reach your application.
- Pay by card. Fees vary by country, so check the amount in Pearson's price finder and confirm the final total at checkout before you submit.
- Save your confirmation. Check the name, date, time and centre address on the confirmation immediately, while a free change is still possible.
What PTE Core costs in Canada
Pearson does not publish a single global price. The fee depends on the country where you sit the test, and Pearson's own guidance is to use the price finder on its test centres and fees page for your location. Check the amount there and again at checkout, because tax handling and pricing windows change. A surcharge can apply if you book at very short notice.

The ID rule that turns people away
You must bring an acceptable photo ID that matches your booking details. Pearson's guidance is that in most cases this will be your passport. Two details catch people out.
- The name must match exactly. Not close, exactly. If your passport shows a middle name and your booking does not, fix the booking before test day rather than arguing at the desk.
- The ID must be valid on the test date. A passport that expires the week after your test is fine. One that expired last month is not.
You must also be aged 16 or over to take PTE Core. Check Pearson's current ID policy for the full list of accepted documents in Canada before you travel to the centre.
Rescheduling, cancelling and refunds
Pearson's published policy turns on how many days sit between the change and your test date.

Pearson's own wording leaves the exact boundary at day 7 ambiguous, so if you are changing a booking in that window, check the refund figure myPTE shows you before you confirm. The safe reading of the whole policy is simple: if you have any doubt about your date, change it while you are still more than 14 days out, when both the reschedule and the refund are free.
After the test: results and sending scores to IRCC
Most test takers get their score within 2 business days, and it can take up to 5. Results appear in your myPTE account as a Score Report, with individual scores for Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing on the 10 to 90 scale.
Each Score Report carries a unique Score Report Code. That code is what IRCC uses to verify your results securely, so you enter it in your Express Entry profile rather than uploading a scan. Your PTE Core Score Report is valid for two years from the test date, and it must still be valid on the day IRCC receives your permanent residence application, not just the day you create your profile.

How far ahead should you book
Two forces pull in opposite directions. Seats at popular Canadian centres go quickly, which argues for booking early. But a date you are not ready for wastes the fee, and you cannot reschedule inside 14 days.
A workable approach is to sit a full PTE Core practice test first, look at your weakest skill, and only then book a date that gives you enough weeks to close that gap. What to do between booking and test day
Learn the test before you drill it. PTE Core runs about two hours with no scheduled break across 19 scored task types, and several of them feed two skill scores at once, so knowing the order and the timing changes how you allocate practice.
